The GE Supplier Diversity Program was launched in 1974 to ensure that we focus on doing what is right for our communities and our Company. We engage our pool of suppliers for good ideas and high-quality goods and services, while enhancing economic opportunity and growth for all. We believe that excellence in supplier diversity can result in excellence in supply chain management and lead to growth for all. We continually strive to grow our diverse supplier base and annually we recognize those in the Company who successfully support our supplier diversity programs.
Core components of the GE Supplier Diversity Program are as follows:
Proud Member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and many state and local minority supplier development councils
- NMSDC is a national voluntary organization of large companies and certified minority-owned businesses that is dedicated to promoting supplier diversity.
- WBENC is a national organization that is an advocate and certifier of women-owned-and-operated businesses throughout the United States.
- GE is active in numerous local and state minority supplier development councils and Women’s Business Enterprise National Councils, including, but not limited to: California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
- Working with local NMSDC chapters and WBENC chapters, GE mentors several small businesses on its best practices and operating model.
- GE is also an active participant in MBE, WBE and other national and local trade/business expositions.
Proud Sponsor of the Tuck Minority Business Enterprise Program (MBEP)
- GE was one of the first and remains one of the most consistent supporters of the Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University. MBEP provides instruction in a variety of key management issues, targeting minority- and female-owned businesses.
- GE was awarded the 1999 Tuck Recognition Award as MBEP’s first corporate sponsor at the National Minority Supplier Development Council Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, in recognition of our 20 years of continuous support for this tremendous program.
Extra Step Award Program
- This award is available to GE employees who have taken the Extra Step and demonstrated their commitment to finding, developing and utilizing small disadvantaged and women-owned businesses within the United States.
- We nominate and present the Extra Step Award to employees throughout all of the GE businesses at GE corporate headquarters, with senior executive involvement in the award ceremony. The award includes a plaque, GE stock and recognition throughout the Company for unyielding support to this initiative.
